This year’s camping trip to Medicine Lake was planned to coincide with the new moon. Unfortunately it ended up coinciding with a rash of wildfires around the state. I was able to get this image of the Lagoon Nebula early on in the trip before the smoke got really bad.

Great shot – you can imagine that it is a reflection of the forest fires below.

Fantastic! Did you use any filters? Is the Canon modified to remove the IR filter?

No filters (besides the smoke). Same old EOS 1000D where I removed the IR cut and replaced it with an Astrodon AD-40D (supplied by Hap). I’m in the market for a 6D, though. The 1000D is pretty noisy. And crop, of course. A 6D wouldn’t be as nice as your 5DIII, but does have some advantages (price being one)…
